Richard Matthew Peterson, MD FACS

Dr. Peterson is the Chief of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is also the Director of the UT Center for Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, and leads this compassionate, safe and exemplary team of bariatric professionals. As the former Consultant for Bariatric Surgery to the US Air Force Surgeon General, he brings expertise and experience to the Center’s bariatric services, specializing in the following procedures: • Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass • Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding • Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectromy • Laparoscopic revision weight loss surgery Fellowship trained in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, Dr. Peterson provides the full spectrum of laparoscopic surgical care, including anti-reflux, solid organ and hernia surgery.
