Biography

Dr. Neal is the Watson Chair and Professor of Surgery, Vice Chair of Surgery, Academic Affairs, and Director of Emergency General Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. He is an Acute Care Surgeon with a practice focused on trauma, emergency general surgery, surgical critical care, and elective surgery. His elective practice focuses on hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction, including robotic and minimally invasive approaches, as well as complex general and gastrointestinal surgery. He serves as the Co-Director of the Pittsburgh Trauma and Transfusion Medicine Research Center, and he runs a translational research program focused on hemostasis and thrombosis with funding from the NIH, DoD, DARPA, and private industry. Dr. Neal is also the Chief Medical Officer for Haima Therapeutics.
