Biography

In 2012, Prof. Keck was appointed to the Chair of Surgery at the University of Lübeck and the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck, which includes the areas of visceral surgery, general surgery, thoracic surgery and vascular surgery as well as transplant surgery. From 2014 to 2019, he established and lead the Oncology Center of the UCCSH (University Cancer Center Schleswig-Holstein) in Lübeck. Since 2018, he has been on the board of the European Minimal-Invasive Pancreas Study Group (EMIPS) and GAPASURG (Global Audit for Pancreatic Surgery). Since 2022, he has also been head of the Division of Health Services at Fraunhofer IMTE in Lübeck and head of the Lübeck Innovation Hub for Robotic Surgery (LIROS) at Fraunhofer IMTE. The focus of Professor Keck's clinical work is on minimally invasive and oncological surgery. Professor Keck was founding chairman of the Surgical Working Chapter Robotics and Innovation (CA-ROBIN) of the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) and was a member of the board of the Surgical Working Group Liver and Biliary Pancreas (CALGP) of the DGAV for many years. He is a member of several expert committees of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and a member of numerous professional societies. He was secretary of the German Chapter of the American College of Surgeons for many years, and has been appointed its president since 2024. In 2024, he was elected Vice President of the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) and President of the Society for 2026 / 2027. In addition, Professor Keck is a member of numerous guideline committees and editor of various scientific journals. He is the author and co-author of over 300 publications, abstracts and book chapters. Prof. Keck has been awarded several honorary doctorates and honorary professorships internationally. Prof. Keck's research focuses on hepato-pancreato-biliary oncology, oncological research and minimally invasive robotic surgery.
