Biography

Dr. Christopher DuCoin, MD, MPH, FACS is a board-certified general surgeon at the University of South Florida where is he Professor of Surgery. Currently, Dr. DuCoin is the Vice Chair of Surgery, Division Chief of GI & General Surgery and Interim Chief of Gastroenterology. Within Tampa General Hospital, Dr. DuCoin servers as the Director of the Digestives Diseases Institution, the Chair of the Surgical Suites committee, Co-Chair of the Robotics Committee, and a member of Operating Room Governance. Dr. DuCoin’s clinic interests focus on esophageal and gastric pathology encompassing both benign and malignant disease with a critical focus on achalasia, paraesophageal hernias and esophageal cancer. Regarding surgical education Dr. DuCoin is the current Fellowship Director and has served as both the Clerkship Director for the Medical Students and Associate Program Director for Residents, while he has also Chaired the Core Competency Committee for both USF and Tulane. Dr. DuCoin’s research interests mirror his clinic practice with a special focus on both outcomes research and access to care. While at USF, he formed and is the director of the Surgery Outcomes Research Team (SORT), where he mentors rough 45 to 60 medical students in research endeavors. He is a member of the Robert A. Good Honor Society, AOA, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. DuCoin has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, more than 20 book chapters and is an invited national and international speaker. Dr. Ducoin also serves as the President of the Young Fellows Association within the American College of Surgeons, representing all surgeons under the age of 46. Dr. DuCoin is blessed to share all of this with his wonderful wife Mattie DuCoin. The two have known each other since they were 16 years old and met in Florida. They have three wonderful children, Sophia, Elizabeth “Ella” and Callahan “Cal”. Dr. DuCoin would say he is a husband 1st, a father 2nd, and a surgeon 3rd.
