Biography

Caitlin Halbert, DO MS FACS is a board-certified general surgeon with a focus in Bariatric and Foregut surgery at ChristianaCare in Delaware. She received her medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. While in medical school, she also completed her Masters of Science in Biomedical Sciences. She went on to complete her General Surgery residency training at Christiana Care before completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital. Dr. Halbert specializes in bariatric surgery, including laparoscopic and robotic sleeve gastrectomy, roux-en-y gastric bypass and revisional surgery. Her practice also includes complex foregut surgery, with a focus on the treatment of achalasia, gastrointestinal reflux disease, and hiatal and diaphragmatic hernias. At ChristianaCare, Dr. Halbert serves many administrative roles, including the Chief of Surgical Services at the Wilmington Campus, Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program, and President-Elect of the Medical-Dental Executive Board. She is the immediate Past-President of the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. She is an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery (SAGES) where she currently serves on the Board of Governors, member of the Membership, Community Practice, and Program committees. She served as the co-chair of the SAGES Annual Meeting in 2024. Secondary to her committee work, Dr. Halbert was awarded the SAGES 2022 Excellence in Community Surgery Award. She has a passion for leadership education and is co-founder and current President of the Women’s Leadership in Surgery Society. Dr. Halbert is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson College. She has authored numerous publications and has presented at many regional and national conferences.
