James Walker is a board certified general surgeon and fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He grew up here in Little Rock, graduating from Pulaski Academy. He attended Vanderbilt University studying Mechanical Engineering and then finished his undergraduate education at Creighton University with a B.S. in Physics. Following graduation, he married his wife, Azida, and returned to Little Rock to attend medical school at UAMS. He then completed his general surgery residency at UAMS and established his practice here at St. Vincent. He is national educator and physician proctor for DaVinci surgery. He is passionate about advancing minimally invasive surgery for complex procedures and acute care surgery because it makes a significant impact in post-operative recovery. Patients feel better faster with robotic surgery, which is always a win. Additionally, he is active in the SVI Acute Care Surgery program. He has been the Trauma Medical Director since 2017. He is a state surveyor for trauma programs throughout Arkansas, and he is teaching faculty for central Arkansas Advanced Trauma Life Support. His favorite procedures include cholecystectomy, thyroidectomy, and complex abdominal wall hernia reconstruction. He enjoys finding solutions to complex problems and the challenge of complicated pathology. He and his wife Azida have two children, Javeed and Alanna. They enjoy international travel as a family and competing with each other in Halo and Fortnite. His hobbies include woodworking and building models - he has several of them on display in the Little Rock clinic.
