Prof Hakan Ozkardes, MD FACS

Hakan Özkardeş was born in 1959. He completed his medical education at Hacettepe University School of Medicine between 1977 and 1983. Following his obligatory governmental service between 1983 and 1985 he began his residency in the Department of Urology in Hacettepe University School of Medicine which he completed in 1989. As a certified urologist he worked at the Ministry of Health Ankara Hospital and completed his obligatory military service at Mareşal Çakmak Military Hospital in Erzurum. He attained the degree of Associate Professor of Urology on October 19, 1994 shortly after which he was assigned to the Department of Urology at the newly established Başkent University School of Medicine as a faculty member and founder of the urology department. In May 2000 he was assigned as Professor in Urology. Professor Özkardeş has served at several administrative posts including Faculty of Medicine Representative at the University Senate, Urology Department and Surgical Section chairs, Vice Dean and Institutional Review Board Chair at the School of Medicine along with his clinical work in patient management and research activities. He is currently the President of Başkent University since May, 24, 2024. Professor Hakan Özkardeş has full memberships of Society of Urologic Surgery, Turkish Society of Urooncology, Society of Endourology, Turkish Society of Organ Transplantation, European Association of Urology, American Urological Association, The Transplantation Society and International Continence Society (ICS) and is a fellow of American College of Surgeons. Professor Özkardeş has published several papers in national and international journals and 29 book chapters in the field of urology. He has contributed to several national and international scientific presentations and has editorship in 7 books. A total of 153 papers published in international periodicals have been cited 1,732 times as of November, 2024. His H index is 24. He is married with 2 children.
