Dr. Shalaby holds an academic appointment so he plays an important role with the other staff in the Department of General Surgery in teaching and supervising students in both conventional and Mansoura-Manchester Medical Program. Dr. Shalaby gives weekly sessions for undergraduate students. Furthermore, he instructs undergraduate students and internship doctors during his outpatient, ward-round, endoscopy, and theatre sessions. He also delivers lectures to both the dental and medical students, as well as providing small group tutorials and revision courses in surgery. Finally, he also serves as a co-supervisor to postgraduate students including on both master and Ph.D. degrees levels. Dr. Shalaby is the Director of Continuing Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development at Mansoura University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Shalaby has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, he has produced numerous scientific papers presented in national and international colorectal congresses. His research and clinical activity focus on laparoscopic resection of colorectal cancer; anastomotic leakage; laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy for rectal prolapse; biologics for anal fistula, and Video-Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT); stapled hemorrhoidopexy (SH) and transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization (THD) procedures for hemorrhoids; and Endoscopic Pilonidal Sinus Treatment (EPSiT) for pilonidal sinus. He has also maintained some international scientific co-operation with the Colorectal Surgery Unit at Rome Tor Vergata University where he worked for two years, as well as, he involved in international research collaborations like ESCP cohort and GlobalSurg. Dr. Shalaby is an editorial board member of Journal of Surgery “Science Publishing Group”, Journal of Surgery Forecast “Science Forecast Publishing Group”, Surgery Clinics Journal “Med Text Publications LLC”, and World Journal of Surgery and Surgical Research.
