Emergency General Surgery Verification Program

Data Registry

The ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Module has been developed in coordination with the EGS Verification Program to bring hospitals the data they need to advance their quality improvement journey. Focused on 11 procedural areas within emergency general surgery and collecting data on both operative and non-operative management of care, this registry module offers participating hospitals the ability to target the variables most relevant to EGS care and access risk-adjusted, benchmarked reports that can be used to develop targets and goals for quality improvement.

Hospitals participating in the EGS Verification Program are not required to participate in this registry; however, when used in combination with one another, these two components offer a unique opportunity to jointly support the progress of the hospital’s EGS program.

Participation options include:

  • ACS NSQIP Hospitals may access and utilize the EGS Module through their current subscription
  • Non-ACS NSQIP Hospitals may either:
    • Join the full ACS NSQIP registry with access to all modules, including EGS.
    • Join only the ACS NSQIP EGS Module with access limited to EGS-specific cases (Module participation is only available to sites participating in the verification program)
