CAnswer Forum is an interactive, virtual bulletin board for constituents to ask questions and search topics and is designed as an open forum for networking and discussion of the accreditation standards, cancer data collection and cancer staging, and other relevant topics. FAQ for Version 9 Cancer Staging System

How can I get I get the latest Version 9 Protocols?

This content is available for purchase through Amazon as an eBook or print-on demand. Content is also available for licensed software vendors visit our website under Cancer Staging System Products.

Since AJCC is switching to electronic Version 9, does this mean the standard AJCC Manual printed book will no longer exist?

Currently, there are no plans to publish a traditional printed AJCC manual for Version 9. However, we will continue to evaluate our users’ needs.

For what diagnosis dates will the Version 9 Protocol content be applicable?

The Version 9 cervix content is applicable for diagnosis starting January 1, 2021. The Anus, Appendix, and Brain & Spinal Cord is applicable for diagnosis starting January 1, 2023.

How will we access this if we do not have an Amazon account?

An Amazon account is free and required to purchase individual Version 9 content.

What if I do not have a Kindle?

If you do not have a Kindle, you can still download digital books from Amazon's Kindle Store and read them on a device that you do have. Amazon has Kindle reading applications available for Windows, Mac, iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone 7 and BlackBerry.

If my device is lost, stolen, or damaged can I still access my original eBook purchase?

Yes. Your ownership of the Kindle book is connected to your Amazon account.

What if my facility does not allow us to download Kindle?

The AJCC does not license directly with libraries or hospitals. However, the AJCC licenses the electronic content with third party vendors who specialize in working with libraries and hospitals. For more information on getting electronic access to the AJCC content at your institution please contact any of the following partners:

Can I read my eBook on more than one device?

Yes. You can use Amazon Kindle App to read on iPhone and Android, and Kindle Desktop Reader as well.

If I have trouble with my purchase, download, Kindle App, or any other technical issue, who do I contact?

If some of the pages of the eBook do not download in a legible format, what do I do?

Please contact Amazon for all product issues here. The AJCC will not be able to address technical issues. The AJCC will address content issues and can be reached at ajcc@facs.org.

If content changes, will it automatically update on in my eBook?

No. Changes will not be automatically pushed to those who purchased an original version. Only major errors will be corrected.

Will all future releases be offered through Amazon Kindle only?

At this time, we do not have plans for providing this content in a different manner, but we will continue to monitor other options.

Will I be able to share my eBook with other people?

Amazon allows you to create an Amazon Household. This allows you to share Amazon benefits with two adults. Here is a link that tells you more https://www.amazon.com/myh/households.

Can I save my Kindle eBook as a PDF?

No, however, you can view the content online using the Kindle desktop application, which is free to download.

Can I print from my eBook?

No. The Kindle is intended to be used as a digital product. However, you can separately purchase a print-on-demand protocol through Amazon.

Will the eBook come in audible format?

No. Audio capabilities are not currently available.

Can I do keyword searches from my eBook?

Yes, there is full search functionality built into the Kindle platform.

Can I highlight articles and save pages from my eBook?

Yes, you can highlight, save notes, and create flash cards in your Kindle.

Does the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual 8th Edition Kindle version contain all the updates?

This is the most current version of the 8th Edition Cancer Staging Manual that includes all the corrections to errata identified through September 2018.

Will facilities have to purchase each disease site individually?

In the years ahead, disease sites will become available for purchase as they are updated to Version 9. These disease sites will be available individually as they become published. However, bundles may become an option in the future.

Will the 8th Edition become invalid as other disease sites are published and released?

As each disease site is updated to Version 9, the corresponding chapter in the 8th Edition will no longer be in effect. Over time, as all chapters in the 8th Edition are updated to Version 9, the 8th Edition will no longer be valid.
