Credentials and Affiliations
CoC Physician Site Reviewers
- An actively practicing (treating, teaching, or administrative role) physician who specializes in cancer care.
- Employed or affiliated with a CoC-accredited program (currently accredited at time of application).
Integrated Network Physician Surveyors
(Can perform Integrated Network Cancer Program [INCP] site visits)
- An actively practicing (treating, teaching, or administrative role) physician who specializes in cancer care.
- Employed or affiliated with a CoC-accredited Integrated Network Cancer Program (currently accredited at time of application).
Skills and Knowledge
- Have extensive and demonstrable knowledge of the current CoC standards.
- Previous experience teaching or presenting instructional or educational information to a learner-based audience.
- Have substantial computer skills, and access and familiarity with Microsoft Office software products.
- Willingness and ability to learn and use all CoC computer programs and databases.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey knowledge and suggestions clearly and professionally. Public speaking experience is required.
Responsibilities
CoC Physician Site Reviewers must:
- Commit to the required amount of time needed to perform Site Reviewer duties and sign and abide by the requirements contained in the Site Reviewer Agreement:
- Perform a minimum of 8 (no maximum) CoC site visits required per calendar year as stated in the Site Reviewer Agreement.
- Physicians who are also Site Reviewers for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) or the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC):
- CoC & NAPBC: Perform a minimum of 13 total site visits between both programs per calendar year (i.e., 8 for CoC and 5 for NAPBC. No maximum).
- CoC & NAPRC: Perform a minimum of 12 total site visits between both programs per calendar year (i.e., 8 for CoC and 4 for NAPRC. No maximum).
- Physicians who perform INCP Site Visits: Perform a minimum of 6 Network (no maximum) CoC site visits required per calendar year as stated in the Site Reviewer Agreement.
- Average time (can vary) commitment: Time for each site visit is 6–8 hours plus 6-8 hours for preparation and final review for each Pre-Review Questionnaire. Network site visits can take between a day and half to two full days (6-8 hours per facility visited).
- Be willing and able to travel to cancer programs across the United States and Puerto Rico (It is possible you will be assigned to site visits outside your home state).
- Be willing and able to perform a virtual site visit.
- Attend the mandatory new Site Reviewer Orientation and Annual Site Reviewer Training. Participate in live and/or webcast training sessions as requested.
- Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date with changes in CoC policies and Standards.
- Be responsive and timely in communications with CoC Staff and assigned cancer programs.
- Complete and submit all required site visit information and documentation to the CoC within 7 calendar days post-site visit date.
- Complete all federal accounting forms, such as 1099; disclosure signed annually.
- Complete and abide to American College of Surgeons Business Agreement, Confidentiality Agreement, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations and participate in annual HIPAA training. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all cancer program information, CoC passwords, and access codes.
- Comply with on-premise hospital requirements and guidelines related to COVID-19, including requests for vaccination status.
- Arrange all travel. An honorarium is provided for each site review and is intended to cover travel expenses. Site Reviewers are responsible for arranging their own travel means to all site reviews, as well as keeping track of expenses and accounting records.
