Quality Framework Frequently Asked Questions

Accreditation/Verification

Am I required to use the ACS Quality Framework for my accreditation/verification program?

The Framework is a tool to guide quality improvement (QI). Using the  Framework is not a requirement for accreditation or verification.

If I use the Framework, will that guarantee compliance with my accreditation/verification program’s QI standard?

Using the Framework does not guarantee compliance, but the Framework can be used as a tool to support your facility’s ongoing QI efforts required for  accreditation/verification.

Can I use the Framework for my Pre-Review Questionnaire (PRQ)?

No, the PRQ is a separate quality program-specific document that must be filled out.

How can I register for the online ACS Quality Improvement Course: The Basics?

The QI Basics course can be found in the Quality > Quality Improvement Education section of the ACS website. 

I’m not part of an ACS Accreditation/Verification program. How can I access the Framework and Toolkit?

You can access the Framework at facs.org/qualityframework.

How is the Framework different from PDSA or DMAIC?

The Framework is a tool to guide quality improvement. It is not a methodology but can be used with methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma or with PDSA and DMAIC models.

Does the Framework cost money to use?

No, the Framework is a free resource.

Who is the intended audience for the Framework?

The Framework can be used by any individuals or teams completing quality improvement projects in any setting. The Quality Framework can be applied to all programs, accreditation projects and verification programs to guide QI projects.

Can successful QI projects be shared with other hospitals as a resource?

The Case Study Repository offers a curated list of quality improvement projects from participants of ACS Quality Programs. If your team would like to submit a QI project for consideration, please contact  ACSQualityFramework@facs.org.

Does ACS require permission to use the Framework in other areas such as doctoral work or publications?

No, we do not require permission to use the Framework for doctoral work or publication as it is available for public use. ACS would appreciate content acknowledgement when applicable.
