Committee on Global Engagement Education Subcommittee

The Education Subcommittee works with the ACS Division of Education and other stakeholders to produce global health in surgery education opportunities for domestic and international learners. This subcommittee collects and reviews ACS H.O.P.E. Clinical Congress proposals and works with ACS H.O.P.E. staff to create scholarship opportunities for ACS members and partners. The “Global Health Competencies for Surgeons didactic course” is supported by this subcommittee.

This subcommittee’s responsibility include: 

  • Work with the ACS Division of Education to produce high-quality educational opportunities focused on global health in surgery. 
  • Increase access to global surgery research and education opportunities for ACS Members and international partners through grants and scholarships.  
  • Ensure that the annual ACS Clinical Congress footprint includes sessions on global surgery. 

Activities

This subcommittee is currently developing a year-long longitudinal certificate course on global health in surgery. The subcommittee also works with ACS H.O.P.E. staff to create scoring and selection criteria for ACS H.O.P.E.’s various grant and scholarship opportunities.
