The Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) evaluates data gathered through an application and a survey report to determine whether applicants meet the requirements for accreditation. Additionally, the committee reviews annual compliance reports to monitor whether Comprehensive and Focused Institutes continue to meet the accreditation requirements throughout their 5-year accreditation terms. The ARC periodically assesses the standards and criteria and makes recommendations for revisions to improve the validity and effectiveness of the accreditation program and to increase innovation in surgical education. The Committee provides unique expert opinion and value to the ACS Division of Education and serves as a resource for prospective candidates seeking accreditation.
