ACS ERRA (Entering Resident Readiness Assessment)

The ACS ERRA (Entering Resident Readiness Assessment) Leadership Team is responsible for the formulation, research, development, implementation, and maintenance of a national psychometrically rigorous formative assessment of clinical decision-making of entering PGY-1 surgical residents. It works, each year, to ensure the content of the assessment is updated to current best practices and standards, and is scored reflective of these updates. Among its chief aims are to provide meaningful results of decision-making assessment and actionable next steps for remediation to a maximum volume of entering surgery residents and their program directors. Annually, the leadership team convenes with leading PGY-1 surgical program directors to review content, shifts in resident responses to answers, and to formulate strategies to improve the mentorship and training of PGY-1 surgical residents nationally.
